Build 2023 – Part 1 – First Impressions and Announcements

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve blogged, and what better way to reboot than to post about Build?

Build has always been touted as the software developer conference in Microsoft’s list of conferences; with data underpinning so many things, it’s exciting to see data sessions front and center. For a list of sessions to see, check out https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/microsoft-digital-event-may-24-25

I’ve added all of these to my watch list and these are my top 3 that I can’t wait for their air time:

  • Analytics in the era of AI (Amir Netz, Arun Ulagaratchagan, Justyna Lucznik, Patrick Baumgartner)
  • Eliminate data silos with OneLake, the OneDrive for data (Josh Caplam, Adi Regev)
  • Empower every BI professional to do more (Christian Wade, Zoe Douglas)

Significant events often come with big announcements, and we didn’t have to wait long with the Opening Keynote announcing Windows Copilot, Copilot stack, shortly followed by Azure AI Studio.

I want to pause on that last one as they also announced Azure AI Safety, great to see initiatives built in to help developers make sure what they are building is safe. We’ve all seen projects where testing is the first thing to be compromised so great to see tooling help.

Next up was  ‘Fabric’ an absolute game changer for data world.

‘Fabric’ is not just one thing it’s a platform covering many experiences.
